Countertop Options

Granite

While there are many options on the market today for kitchen countertops, granite is still by far the most affordable and the most popular choice.

Granite is durable, naturally beautiful and easy to care for.

You can cut on your granite countertops without any fear of harming them.  We do have to warn you that if you cut on them continually, you will dull your knives.

Hot items can be set on granite countertops without any fear of scorching or burning the stone.

Granite's natural beauty is unmatched by ANY man-made products on the market.

Granite offers the best return on your investment.  Realtors agree that replacing your existing countertops with granite will increase the likelihood of selling your home.

Quartz

Quartz is the most comparable man-made product to granite slabs.  Quartz countertops are made up of 70% quartz crystals.  Polymers and resins make up the additional 30%.

Quartz countertops are scratch-resistant and heat-resistant but not scratch-PROOF or heat-PROOF, therefore it is recommended that you use trivets and cutting boards, as needed, on your quartz countertops.

It is not necessary to seal quartz countertops because they are nonporous.

You may choose not to hand-select your quartz slab before it is cut because each slab is uniform and consistent.  However as with any other man-made product, you might notice subtle color variations from the sample to your slabs.

Solid Surface

Solid surface countertops are poured and molded to their desired shapes and sizes.  You may know these types of countertops by Corian, which is a specific brand of solid surface.

Hot pots and pans can melt the solid surface material.  Also, cutting on solid surface countertops will scratch them, so it is necessary to use trivets and cutting boards on these types of countertops.

Laminate

Laminate is commonly referred to by the brand name Formica.

This type of countertop can be a very affordable option when the budget does not allow for an upgraded countertop.

It is not recommended to chop, cut or place hot items directly on laminate countertops.
